Pub Sessions Are A Delight - How To Have A Good Time At Pubs in Brighton

A pub session means playing music and/or singing in the relaxed social location of a local pub, in which the music-making is interacted with the intake of ale, stout, and beer and conversation. Performers sing and play traditional songs and tunes from the Irish, English and Scottish traditions, using instruments such as the fiddle, accordion, concertina, flute, tin whistle, uilleann pipes, tenor banjo, guitar, and bodhrán.

History of Pub Sessions All Around The World

Singing and drinking have occurred together from ancient times, but written evidence is scrappy until the 16th century. In Shakespeare's Henry IV, Hal and Falstaff discuss drinking and playing the "tongs and the bones". There are respectable depictions of pub singing in paintings by Teniers, Brouwers but
Pubs in Brighton
the best ones are by Jan Steen.

The 1830 Beer Act eliminated the levy on beer and rapidly doubled the number of pubs in England. The number peaked in the 1870s and declined after 1900. By the 1850s, a growing number of student songs and commercial song books were printed across Europe. The most famous was the Scottish Students' Song Book by John Stuart Blackie. The blend of traditional songs with hints of erotic humour remains to this day. The Irish tradition also benefited from the compilation of O'Neill's Music of Ireland, a compilation of 1,850 pieces of Irish session and dance music, published initially by Francis O'Neill in 1903.

One of the most popular drinking songs, "Little Brown Jug," dates from the 1860s. By 1908 Percy
Brighton Pubs
Grainger had begun to record folk singers, but not in their natural habitat, the pub. In 1938A.L. Lloyd persuaded his employers at the BBC to record the singers in the Eel's Foot pub in Eastbridge, Suffolk.

At The Eel's Foot, the songs performed included: "False Hearted Knight", "The Dark-Eyed Sailor", "The Princess Royal", "The Foggy Dew", "Underneath Her Apron", "Pleasant and Delightful", "The

Blackbird." Astonishingly, one of the songs was "Poor Man's Heaven" an American IWW song Industrial Workers of the World, dating from about 1920. The oldest singer there was William "Velvet" Brightwell. In 1947 the BBC made more recordings there and broadcast them as "Anglia Sings" on 19 November 1947. Nearly all of the members were in their 50s and 60s. Six years later the first folk club opened in Newcastle upon Tyne, and the average age was in the 20s.

Are You Excited About Wicked The Musical Gracing The Big Screen?

Wicked is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. It is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, an alternate telling of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The musical is told from the perception of the witches of the Land of Oz; its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy's arrival in Oz from Kansas and includes numerous references to the 1939 film and Baum's novel. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda the Good, who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, reactions to the Wizard's
Wicked The Musical
dishonest government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace.

And now it’s been revealed that one of the biggest broadway/west end production are now going to be adapted into a movie.

"Let It Go" singer Idina Menzel who played Elphaba and won the Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical has been told that she is not going to be cast in the movie adaptation as she was told that she's "too old" to play the role, however she would love to play a part in the intended project.

"I would die to be in the film, except I'm afraid Kristin Chenoweth and I... they told us we're a little over the age for that," she added.

On the other hand, "Glee" star Lea Michele, who really worked with Idina Menzel in "Glee" as mother and daughter, is reportedly trying to get the lead role for the movie adaptation.

Although, with Menzel’s latest success with Frozen and the number 1 hit single ‘Let It Go’ putting Menzel back on the hot spot then she may have more of a chance of landing the role.

5 Tips To Letting Agency: Visit Lettings Agency in Hove

Buy-to-let is growing again. The amount of money lent to landlords in the three months to the end of June was 29pc greater than in the same period last year.
Letting Agency in Hove

But if you want to join the band of buy-to-let landlords, it’s crucial to buy the right properties and manage them correctly. Knowledgeable property investor Graham White, who has about 10 properties worth more than £1m collectively, knows how to do this and how to dodge the mistakes that many first-timers make.

If You Want To Be A Lettings Agents in Hove - Here Are The Top 5 Tips He Gives:

1. Try to buy something that is not very old

“Try to buy something that is not very old – this will mean fewer maintenance down the line. As lovely as period two-bedroom house sounds, you’re not going to be living in it. Do not get carried away about any purchase as a home. It is a business deal.”

2. Buy the type of property that is utmost “lettable”

“Two-bedroom houses and flats are ever popular and appeal to the widest range of potential tenants, especially those who are finding it tough to get on to the property ladder. Avoid large family homes, which appeal to fewer potential tenants.”

3. Don’t restrict yourself to your own immediate area

“Don’t restrict yourself to your own immediate area but research others nearby, where the rental yields may be markedly better.

I live in a city close to the south coast. Property here is expensive compared with surrounding towns and cities. A typical two-bedroom leasehold flat in my city will cost around £250,000 and fetch about £875 a month in rent. There is a smaller town 20 minutes away where property is far less expensive – you can buy a two-bedroom freehold house for around £125,000, which fetches a monthly rental of about £680.

In other words, you halve the purchase price but your rental income falls by only 22pc. You could
Hove Letting Agency
buy two of these properties for the cost of one in your own backyard and receive £1,360 a month, not £875. Remember, you are not purchasing to sell again in a year. You will probably own the property for the rest of your life and then bequeath it, so concentrate on getting the best rate of return on your money.”

4. Make sure the area has a healthy market for tenants.

“In the example above, there are plenty of tenants to go around in both areas. But be shrewd about the exact location of the property within your chosen town or city. Convenience is a useful factor. Being within walking distance of shops, railway stations, the town centre and so on will ensure that your property is high on the list of desirable places to live for tenants.”

5. Try to avoid run-down areas.

“Quite simply, this will have a direct relationship with the type of tenant you will attract – and poor quality tenants will cost you money.”

All Flowers Have Different Scents: The Key To A Flowers Delight at Florists in Rottindean

Flowers of many plant species produce a scent, being either nice or foul, for example; for example, the titan arum, a huge flower native to Sumatra, smells like a rotting carcass. These scents are typically a complex mixture of low molecular weight compounds released by flowers into the atmosphere and its structure, colour and odours are serious factors in attracting pollinators. Although
flowers can be matching in their colour or shape, there are no two floral scents that are exactly the same because of the large diversity of fickle compounds and their relative abundances and interactions. Thus, scent is a signal that directs pollinators to a particular flower whose nectar and/or pollen is the reward. Volatiles produced from flowers function as both long- and short-distance attractants and play a prominent role in the localization and selection of flowers by insects, especially moth-pollinated flowers, which are detected and visited at night. Species pollinated by bees and flies have sweet scents, whereas those pollinated by beetles have strong musty, spicy, or fruity odours. All types of flowers, whether strong musty or sweet are sold at your local Florists in Rottingdean.

What Do Insects Want With These Flowers at Florists in Rottingdean?

To date, not much is known about how insects respond to separate components found within floral scents, but it is obvious that they are capable of differentiating among complex scent mixtures. In addition to tempting insects to flowers at Florists in Rottingdean and guiding them to food resources within the flower, floral volatiles are essential in allowing insects to differentiate among plant species and even among individual flowers of a single species. For example, carefully related plant species that rely on different types of insects for pollination produce different odours, reflecting the olfactory sensitivities or preferences of the pollinators. By providing species-specific signals, flower fragrances facilitate an insect's ability to learn particular food sources, thereby increasing its foraging efficiency. At the same time, successful pollen transfer is ensured, which is beneficial to plants.

Plants tend to have their scent production at maximal levels only when the flowers are ready for
pollination and when its potential pollinators are active as well. Plants that exploit their output during the day are mainly pollinated by bees or butterflies, whereas those that release their fragrance usually at night are pollinated by moth and bats. During flower development at Florists in Rottingdean, newly opened and young flowers, which are not ready to meaning as pollen donors, produce fewer odours and are less attractive to pollinators than are older flowers. Once a flower has been sufficiently pollinated, the floral bouquets lead to a lower attractiveness of these flowers and help to unswerving pollinators to unpollinated flowers instead, thereby exploiting the reproductive success of the plant.

Flowers are gorgeous, but they're about more than looks. Next time you buy some pretty flowers for someone, remember you're not the only one trying to attract attention.

Arrangements for Bonfire Night celebrations include making a imitation of Guy Fawkes, which is called "the Guy". But in Nottingham, burglary, robbery, shoplifting, sexual offences and incidents of violence with

injury all increased. And, in Brighton and Hove Detective Chief Inspector Jez Graves admitted he was “disappointed” with the huge number of burglaries.

The Nations Favourite Bluebell Flower is Under Threat

Hyacinthoides non-scripta (formerly Endymion non-scriptus or Scilla non-scripta) is a bulbous perennial plant, found in Atlantic areas from north-western Spain to the British Isles, and also frequently used as a garden plant. It is known in English as the common bluebell or simply bluebell, a name which is used in Scotland to refer to the harebell, Campanula rotundifolia.

Florists in RottingdeanBluebells are particularly associated with ancient woodland where it may dominate the understorey to produce carpets of violet, blue flowers in "bluebell woods", but also occurs in more open habitats in western regions. It is protected under UK law, and in some other parts of its range.

A bluebell wood is a woodland that in springtime has a flooring of flowering bluebells underneath a newly forming leaf canopy. The thicker the summer canopy, the more the good ground-cover is suppressed, encouraging a thick carpet of bluebells, whose leaves mature and die down by early summer. Other common woodland plants which accompany bluebells include the Yellow Rattle and the anemone or Anemone nemorosa.

The Battle of Britains Native Bluebells in Florists in Rottingdean

The UK's woodlands are home to almost 50% of the worldwide population of our native bluebell (Hyacinthoides non-scripta). With its exclusive scent and the very delicate form and structure of the flowers, it is an extremely special flower claim experts.
"We have some of the best bluebell carpets in the world," says Katie Lewthwaite of the Woodland Trust. "People don't necessarily realise, but we've got just the right damp climate for them."
Rottingdean Florists
The blanket of intense blue flowers, with their distinctive perfume, has for centuries been a source of captivation for springtime wanderers in the countryside, but is under threat from pollution, the encroachment of urbanisation. This is mainly from an aggressive hybrid. And with the UK being home to such a large chunk of the world's population, it means this bluebell is threatened on a global scale. It's a massive cause for concern for conservationists and Florists in Rottingdean.
Many of the bluebells found in our gardens and urban areas are not the traditional British flower, they are in fact an aggressive hybrid (Hyacinthoides x massartiana) - the product of cross-breeding between the native bluebell and the Spanish variety (Hyacinthoides hispanica).

This hybrid was initially recorded in the wild in 1963. It's highly fertile and has spread rapidly in the UK's urban areas.

Fireworks: “Remember Remember the 5th of November”

When you’re considering wood burning ovens in Crawley, you might want to consider buy fireworks as the 5th of November is fast approaching…

History of Fireworks

The earliest documentation of fireworks dates back to 7th century China, where they were invented. These were heated over a fire and dried to give a black flaky powder which burned with a loud bang when ignited. This crude, early mixture has come to be known in our modern world today as gun powder.

Crawley Wood Burning OvensThe Chinese named this fascinating black powder "huo yao" ("Fire Chemical") and developed it further. The mixture was inserted into the hollow of a bamboo stick and when thrown into a fire, the gases produced by the ignited burning powder inside caused a massive build-up of pressure and blasted the tube apart. The basic fire cracker was born. Thereafter, fire crackers played an essential part to Chinese festivities -weddings, religious rituals -nay cause for celebration heard their bang due to the belief that they were thought to be influential enough to scare off wicked spirits.

The fireworks were used to accompany many festivities. It is a part of the culture of China and had its origin there; eventually it spread to other cultures and societies. The art and science of firework making has developed into an independent profession. In China, pyro technicians were respected for their knowledge of complex techniques in mounting firework displays.

Themed Vs Traditional Pubs: How Traditional Pubs are Striking Back

A study of drinking ways has found that bars decorated with street signs and other flavourings from "theme" nations have lost their originality value and are being increasingly seen as tacky.
A team from the market research company Mintel found that 100 theme bars - which became popular in the mid-1990s and include chains such as Scruffy Murphy's, Bar Oz, Finnegan's Wake and O'Neill's had closed or converted back to traditional British Brighton pubs in the past year.
Brighton Pubs
Pat Aston, the senior leisure analyst at Mintel, said to The Telegraph: "The big boom in

theme bars is over. They have lost their novelty value. More women are going to bars and there is a new trend towards minimalism or post-modern eclecticism, neither of which fits well with theming."

The findings show that the influence of Britain's ageing population has also been felt on the theme bars, which were designed to appeal to 20- to 24-year-olds - a group that will decrease in size over the next decade.

So What Do The Public Make of Themed Pubs over Traditional Pubs in Brighton?

“Themed pubs should be banned!!” says GrantJH from TripAdvisor.com “I don't understand why bars insist on being nation themed, I mean I'm Australian and I've been traveling for 7yrs..... Every country I go to always has English, Aussie or Irish pubs, they are the worst, and this is no different! I liked the beers, but the food was terrible! I just wish there had been something more original to the bars menu in regards to its location, but again this is to be expected from themed bars like this! Ohh well moving onto my next review.....

Although separate bars with Irish or other national themes have long existed in Britain, the big breweries began to operate them as chains after Bass opened the first O'Neill's pub in Aberdeen. It was adorned to look like a traditional Dublin pub, with hints of the Irish countryside. Farming tools hung from the walls and the drinking area was divided into small sections using timber walls.

Bringing Back Traditional - Themed Pubs Going out Of Style?

That trend is now being reversed and 35 O'Neill's pubs, 23 Scruffy Murphy's and 12 Finnegan's Wakes have been closed by their respective breweries. The Mintel study predicted that another 150 theme bars would closed by 2007.

Pubs in BrightonMr Cartwright said Mitchells & Butlers had "debranded" all the Scruffy Murphy's that it credited from Allied Domecq in 1999. "The King and Keys was debranded last year and redecorated very sympathetically. It has regained its original character."
The landlord, Raymond Williams, 55, praised his "nice old pub", which had a history dating back to the 16th century. He said: "I still serve people who have fond memories of it back in the early '90s. Many have told me they are very happy that the themed Irish bar has been banished."

One King and Keys customer, Andrew Lester, 22, a tax consultant, said: "I prefer it like this. It's a nicer pub."

So is it more than just the older generation that are starting to dislike themed pubs?

Is Texas Hold'em Your Favourite Poker Game in Brighton Casinos? You decide

The game of poker has also been spread by a number of well-received motion pictures, from “Rounders” in 1998 to the 2006 James Bond flick “Casino Royale”.

Casinos in Brighton
the growing number of its adherents on the Internet.

The World Series of Poker and other main poker events are regularly broadcast on mainstream television channels and the introduction of hole cards cameras gave viewers an perception to the poker player’s mindset. The astonishing success of Chris Moneymaker, when he made his way from a small investment at an online poker room to winning the 2003 World Series of Poker Main Event, gave poker players around the world the hope that they would repeat that rags-to-riches story.

The game of poker continues to be relished by players everywhere. The rule of the game in Europe and recent legislation in a number of states in the U.S. will again allow online poker players the chance to play their favourite game in its online form.

How Popular is Texas Hold’em in Brighton Casinos?

Texas Hold 'Em is one of the most popular forms of poker. Texas Hold 'em's popularity surged in the 2000s due to exposure on television, the Internet and popular literature and into Casinos in Brighton. During this time hold 'em replaced seven-card stud as the most common game in U.S. casinos. The no-limit betting form is used in the widely televised main event of the World Series of Poker and the World Poker Tour. Hold 'em's ease and admiration have inspired a wide variety of strategy books
Brighton Casino
which provide recommendations for proper play like in a Casino in Brighton. Most of these books mention a strategy that involves playing relatively few hands but betting and rising often with the hands one plays. In the first decade of the twenty-first century, Texas hold 'em qualified a surge in popularity worldwide. Many observers point this growth to the synergy of five factors: the invention of online poker, the game's appearance in film and on television, invention and usage of the "hole card cam" (which allowed viewers to see hole cards played in the hand as a means of determining strategy and decision-making during gameplay), the appearance of television commercials advertising online card rooms, and the 2003 World Series of Poker championship victory by online qualifier Chris Moneymaker.

Its popularity stems to 4 main media creations:

  • Television and Film
  •  Literature - The English journalist and biographer Anthony Holden spent a year on the professional poker circuit from 1988-1989 and wrote about his experiences in Big Deal: A Year as a Professional Poker Player (amongst others)
  • Online Poker
  • Video Games – For example Far Cry 3, in which the player is essential to play a game of Texas hold 'em with Hoyt, the game's main antagonist, towards the end of the game.

Centerpieces, entryways, reception tables, bridal bouquets, wedding chuppahs and stage sets are only a few examples of how flowers are used in the business and social event settings. Flowers are also traditionally used in ecclesiastical settings and their arrangement is often done by skilled church volunteers.

The Joy and Torment of Floristry for Weddings

"When I first started in floristry a bride wanted sprays of purple, red and yellow with white gypsophila. says Emin. She obviously didn't know what she was talking about, but she insisted we go ahead and when she came and saw the results just before the wedding, she burst into tears. Since then

I always warn people if I think their ideas won't work."

There are fastidious brides who want to organise the minutiae of their bouquet 18 months in advance "climate change is making it very difficult to predict what will be available when," Dennis the owner says, "this spring £1m wouldn't have bought you lily of the valley because it finished flowering a month early" and last-minute brides who come in a fortnight before the big day and want Hollywood extravagance on a shoestring. One rang in on the morning of her nuptials after another florist had let her down and Emin had to construct her bouquet on the spot.

Spinning Around at Spinning Classes at your Local Sports Centre Sussex

Spinning brand classes or other indoor cycling workouts (such as LeMond, Reebok or Schwinn, which all have slight variations to how they approach this) can be a great way to get in a vigorous workout, burning calories and keeping your muscles in shape, especially during the off-season. However, you have to have a high tolerance for exercise bikes and being cooped up inside with other people for this to be a satisfying alternative to the real thing. There are numerous benefits to a spinning workout at your local Sport Centres Sussex.

Burn Calories - A spinning workout of 45 minutes may allow you to burn around 500 calories, which is a huge amount when compared to other types of workout. However, the amount of calories you burn will depend on the intensity of the workout. Adjust your bike according to the intensity you desire.
Build Muscle Tone - The spinning workout may help you build some muscle tone. The workout will focus on the core muscles, as well as the buttocks and thighs. You can increase and decrease the tension of the bike; this is similar to riding up and down a hill. While you pedal, you will work your thighs and calves. If you maintain the correct position on the bike, you will also work on your abdominal muscles. When you pedal faster, you are likely to burn fat. When you pedal slower and have a higher tension, you will work your muscles.
Increased Cardio Endurance - If you opt for regular spinning classes, you will build increased cardio endurance. This is beneficial, especially if you feel weaker and start panting even after an insignificant effort, such as climbing a flight of stairs.
Relieve Stress - Any type of exercise is known to relieve stress. However, a spinning class can be a more efficient stress reliever than most types of exercise. This is due to the fact that the workout is intensive and it is a class where you can meet people and socialize. Spinning classes are held by an instructor that will motivate you throughout the workout. In addition, there will be music, which will make the class more entertaining.
Reduced Risks of Injury - While running and jogging may present a great risk of injury, a
spinning class is less likely to cause any injuries. Nevertheless, it's recommended to stretch prior to the class, so that you don't pull any muscles.
Track Your Progress - Most stationary bikes will have some devices which will track the amount of calories you burn, your mileage and even your pulse. This means that you can track your progress, which is also a motivating factor.

Visit your local Leisure Centre Sussex

Ultimately participants control their own levels of effort, something that works better for some people than others.

But a good instructor can certainly encourage and motivate you to push yourself, and you'll most likely find an indoor cycling class on a stationary bike to be a vigorous workout. It's a decent way to stay in shape when you can't get outside on the road.

Youtube Sensation Miranda Sings takes Theatre Royal, Brighton

On November 9th, Miranda Sings will take the stage at the Theatre Royal, Brighton in East Sussex.

Miranda Sings is an internet character created in 2008 by American comedian, actress, singer and YouTube personality Colleen Ballinger. Ballinger displays videos of the comically talentless, egotistical and quirky character on her YouTube channel under the username Miranda Sings. On these videos, the character sings poorly, discusses present events that she often misapprehends, gives "tutorials" and rants about her critics, the "haters".

Ballinger created the character as a satire of the many bad but arrogant singers who believe that posting their videos on YouTube will lead to them breaking into show business.

Genesis of the Character

Theatre Royal, BrightonMiranda's creator, Colleen Ballinger, created the character partly on young women that she knew in the performance department of her college, Azusa Pacific University. She told The Times of London, "There were a lot of cocky girls who thought they were really talented, and they weren't. They were so rude and snotty, it drove me nuts. Then I saw all these girls trying to make a career out of putting videos on YouTube (of themselves singing in their bedrooms) ... clueless to the fact that they were terrible. The characters were so ridiculous; I wanted to make one of my own." Ballinger has said: "I
thought it was so stupid, because I didn't think anybody got famous off of YouTube."
In March 2009, she uploaded a video called "Free Voice Lesson" that quickly became a sensation. The video consists of advice to use, and demonstrations of, techniques that real voice teachers would warn students to avoid.

Expanding onto doing Gigs at Theatre Royal Brighton

Beginning in April 2009, in addition to her internet videos, Miranda Sings has performed her one-woman live comedy acts at sold-out cabaret spaces and theatres in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, London, Dublin, Edinburgh and other cities in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, Norway and elsewhere. BroadwayWorld.com called her "the hottest, freshest and oddest breakout star in the musical theatre/cabaret scene".

In the live comedy acts, Ballinger begins the show as herself and then transforms onstage into Miranda.

Since early 2009, Ballinger's character has loved widespread popularity, especially among musical
Theatre Royal, Brighton
theatre fans. Later, her fan base expanded mostly among teenagers. Her live comedy acts have been in demand at cabaret clubs and theaters in New York (Birdland Jazz Club, Best Buy Theater), London (Ambassadors Theatre; Leicester Square Theatre), Australia (selling out every performance in her 2013 tour) and elsewhere throughout North America, in Britain and Scandinavia, at venues where her teenage fans, who call themselves "Mirfandas", are admitted. Since 2010, all of her shows have sold out.

As the popularity of the character has increased, Ballinger has been able to book longer sell-out runs of her live comedy acts, at larger and larger venues, including, in 2013, a six-performance run at the Leicester Square Theatre in London, seven performances in Australia, and, in 2014, a performance at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. Miranda Sings is now expanding onto more places in the UK, such as the Theatre Royal Brighton. This will give her much more exposure, and give her the recognition that she deserves.

Miranda Sings/Colleen Ballinger has many friends in Brighton already, such as Alfie Days (PointlessBlog) and Zoe Sugg  (Zoella) so no doubt they will be making an appearance, which will be fun for all those YouTube lovers out there. So if you like the Theatre Royal, Brighton and Miranda sings then go buy your ticket now.

The Brighton Dome presented Katy Perry before Fame - Were You There?

Beyoncé is undoubtedly a goddess. Lady Gaga is an artist and a half. But after logging her eighth number-one single, Katy Perry might be the biggest pop star of her generation. She’s also the only one who has performed at The Brighton Dome.

And a few polls revealed that Katy Perry is at the top of the favourites…

She’s not the singer with the most excitement. She doesn't have fan armies that set up countdown
clocks to the announcement of her next song, she isn't the first choice to cover an issue of Vogue, and her music and tricks don't dominate water-cooler conversation. She's popular, but not with-it. She makes music that everyone sings along to, but not many people. She dresses in bright costumes and embraces an over-the-top persona, but still reads as dim and normal.

It’s appropriate that Perry’s latest smash is titled “Roar.” Though she’s been around for over six years, the song is almost a second coming out. She’s been quiet and very successful this past decade, but now she’s roaring.

She’s music’s biggest pop star.

Brighton DomeStart of Katy Perry’s Career at The Brighton Dome

In 2007, Katy Perry debuted her first single, “I Kissed a Girl,” a PG-13 bubblegum pop track. The song was branded a “lipgloss lesbian” anthem by critics. Others dismissed it as faux provocation masking as pop. Just a few years later, still at the beginning of her career, Perry performed at the Brighton Dome in Brighton, East Sussex. With the review from the Guardian that stated “Brighton Dome Concert Hall, Thursday
The US kiddie pop favourite brings the likes of I Kissed A Girl and UR So Gay. Mild controversy follows half-heartedly in her wake. Great tunes, though.”

These days Perry is filling up arenas such as the o2 Arena, London and rumoured to perform within the LA super bowl halftime show.

“I Kissed a Girl” spent seven weeks at number one. Quickly silencing the one-hit wonder theorists, her follow-up, “Hot n Cold,” had a long residency in the Top 10, peaking at number three. In 2010, she released her sophomore album, Teenage Dream. Five consecutive singles from the album went to number one “California Gurls,” “Teenage Dream,” “Firework,” “E.T.,” and “Last Friday Night.” A sixth, “The One That Got Away,” settled for number three, while two bonus singles off of a luxurious edition of the album “Part of Me” and “Wide Awake” charted at one and two, respectively.

Up To Date Perry Impact

Beyoncé, the deserving recipient of the title, the Greatest Performer of Her Time, only has five number one singles, and hasn’t had one since 2008’s “Single Ladies.” In fact, not one song off her last album, 4, charted higher than 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the same amount of time that Katy Perry has racked up eight number ones, Lady Gaga has only achieved three.

Both Gaga and Perry released their new singles, “Applause” and “Roar” on the same day. “Applause” peaked at number four and has already fallen two spots to number six. “Roar” logged an increase in digital sales over the past week after its release.

How Drinking Alcohol Affects Your Health: Good and Bad

Pubs in BrightonAlcohol is created when grains, fruits, or vegetables are fermented. Fermentation is a process that uses yeast or bacteria to change the sugars in the food into alcohol. Fermentation is used to produce many necessary items, everything from cheese to medications. Alcohol has different forms and can be used as a cleaner, an antiseptic, or a sedative.

Scientists have long advertised the heart benefits of drinking small amounts of alcohol. Newer studies have credited moderate drinking with everything from helping to keep our minds sharp as we age to lowering our risk of developing diabetes.

Does It Help or Hurt?

Drinking alcohol can be decent for your health, but it can also be damaging. It all depends on how much you drink, your age, and other factors.

There's no denying that too much alcohol can lead to serious problems. Additional alcohol can increase your risk of:

  • Liver disease
  • High blood pressure
  • High blood fats (triglycerides)
  • Heart failure
  • Stroke
  • Fetal alcohol syndrome (if you're pregnant)
  • Certain cancers
  • Injury, violence, and death

If you regularly drink more than the recommended daily limits, it will risk damaging your health.

There's no guaranteed safe level of drinking, but if you drink less than the recommended daily limits, the risks of harming your health are low.

And it's certainly not only people who get drunk or binge drink that are at risk. Most people who repeatedly drink more than the NHS recommends don't see any harmful effects at first.

Alcohol’s hidden harms usually only arise after a number of years. And by then, serious health problems can have developed.

Liver problems, reduced fertility, high blood pressure, increased risk of various cancers and heart attack are some of the numerous harmful effects of regularly drinking more than the recommended levels.

But How Does it Positively Affect Us?

Moderate alcohol consumption may have some substantial health benefits.

Brighton PubsAccording to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, "moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. This definition is referring to the amount consumed on any single day and is not intended as an average over several days."

So we’ve had our reasonable share of finding out why alcohol is bad for us, so here are some of the health benefits of heading down the Pubs in Brighton –

  • It Can Lower Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease
  • It Can Lengthen Your Life
  • It Can Improve Your Libido
  • It Helps Prevent Against the Common Cold
  • It Can Decrease Chances of Developing Dementia
  • It Can Reduce the Risk of Gallstones
  • Lowers the Chance of Diabetes
