Online Becoming More Popular than Live Poker in Brighton Casinos

Online Poker is the same as Live Poker in Brighton yet it’s played online, although you’re given a name to go by and an online chatroom so you can chat amongst other players. It has been partly responsible for a huge increase in the number of poker players around the worldwide.

Pros to Live Poker in Brighton Casinos

The biggest advantage of playing live poker in Brighton Casino is the wealth of information that each player has available to them. Many people undervalue how important it is to physically see the players across the table, but if you can see them, you can read them, and you can really beat them. Being able read people is a great skill to have in poker that also applies to other areas in life, like business and social situations.

Besides the social contact, society also loves live poker because it makes you handle your money with more care. When you actually place your bills down on the table, and know that the cage is only a few feet away, it really makes you treat it as real money as opposed to playing online where your bankroll is just a number that takes days to cash out.

Pros to Online Poker at Home

Although online poker loses the physical tells of live poker in Brighton Casino, there are still some online poker tells to clue you in on your opponents, and besides the interaction between players there are tons of other advantages of online poker.

At a live poker room you can expect to find 10-100 tables of No Limit Hold'em, Limit Hold'em, Omaha, and perhaps a table or two of Stud. At an online poker room however, you can expect to find
hundreds if not thousands of real money tables, offering all the normal games plus occasional games such as Razz, 2-7 Triple Draw, and mixed games like H.O.R.S.E.

Another advantage is the fact that online poker tournaments run 24/7 and 365 days a year, as opposed to the one or two daily poker tournaments most casinos offer. Also, tournaments are offered in stakes ranging from $0.10 to $10,000, so you get a lot more variety than at a live casino. Another tournament advantage is the fact that there are literally thousands of online tournaments every day, whereas at a live casino you could play maybe one or two tournaments per day. So, it feels good to a poker lover knowing they can click onto their laptop at any time and play for however long they want on it.

Apprenticeship Jobs and Business Directory – Do You Want To Go To University?

The UK’s prime minister, David Cameron spoke out about how he wanted apprenticeships to be the new direction for graduates of college. For example, Brighton Business Directories and small businesses such as local hairdressers, newspapers etc. benefit greatly from apprentices. They need staff and you can learn and get paid at all together.

Top 3 Apprenticeships in England

1.  Business

Business is a tremendously popular subject. Business covers a massive area of different topics, and so whether you are looking for an apprenticeship in accountancy, business administration or team leadership, there are a huge range of business apprenticeships for you to browse through when making your decision.

 2. Retail

Retail is a fast-paced environment that is regularly growing and evolving and an apprenticeship in retail will give you the skills you need to work in such an environment. Apprenticeships in retail could see you working on a stall, in a small independent shop or in a chain or large department store. It is helpful if you have previous retail experience when applying for this type of apprenticeship.

 3. IT and the web

IT is one of the fastest growing industries so it wouldn’t be a top ten list of apprenticeships without it. Whether you are hoping to work with computers as an IT technician or if you want to build on your IT knowledge, an apprenticeship in IT and the web will be a great start to your career.

Why Be an Apprentice?

An apprenticeship combines elements of education, training and employment simultaneously. Giving you the ability to learn whilst you earn.
Brighton Business DirectoryUnlike work placements or voluntary programs, apprenticeships are legally entitled to a wage from as little as £95 per week. However, this is only minimum wage. Apprenticeships, on average, earn around £200 per week, depending on profession. Plus, the more skills and qualifications you pick up, the more your wage will increase!
All apprenticeships offer work-based qualifications, such as National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) and Key Skills qualifications, no matter which profession you choose to pursue. In some cases, you can earn BTEC certificates, or even UCAS points, which go towards a university application.

How is an apprenticeship good in a Brighton Business Directory?

If you work within a business directory you will get many skills such as communicational skills, people skills, writing skills and digital skills (such as SEO training). If you have an interest in any areas such as business, IT, social media, journalism or being a general sales person than a business directory is an ideal start or possible career path for you.
Experience trumps theory. When it comes to a rich education that sticks, it seems “old school” is the way to go. Let’s start exploring the apprenticeship model and find ways to build our expertise by actually doing what interests us most.

Coffee Shops Booming Whilst Pubs in Brighton are Falling

“We now spend more on coffee in a year than we do on our energy bills – and as the price of beans rises, we respond by becoming ever fussier about our drinks.” - The Independent newspaper claims.

Coffee Shops in Brighton

Across Britain in the past year there were 245 new Costa Coffees, 160 Starbucks, 83 Caffe Neros and 78 openings by smaller chains, according to research by consultants Allegra Strategies. Overall, 566 branded coffee shops were launched, increasing the total by 25 per cent to 2,804.

So why pubs are struggling to make the last orders call, coffee shops are booming. In 1998, there were 61,000 pubs compared with 57,200 this April, a loss of 380 a year.

Pubs in BrightonThe difference between pubs and coffee shops are that coffee shops are lot more quant, they’ve also increased in terms of being a social hot spot.

“In a coffee shop you have a convivial atmosphere without the alcohol or the rowdiness. I would not go to the pub for a coffee, I would go for a pint," says Kavanagh.

He also believes coffee shops have been boosted by people shopping more online. Instead of spending their Saturdays trawling the shops, Brits are meeting up with friends at their local cafe.

Pubs in Brighton

In comparison, the number of pubs in Britain has been in steep decline for a number of years. ‘The Campaign for Real Ale’ says British pubs are closing at the rate of 31 a week, although many are now fighting back by improved food and by serving breakfast and coffee throughout the day.

Brighton Pubs
The one Pub based company that have fully sussed it is J D Wetherspoon. Wetherspoons was founded in 1979 with over 900 pubs around Britain, including 2 pubs in Brighton. It claims to be "the only large pub firm which opens all its pubs early in the morning", serving breakfast and coffee as well as a full food menu into the evening.

Pubs claim that they are losing their business to Wetherspoon a lot more than they are losing it to coffee shops...  "I have lost 50 per cent of my business to Wetherspoon – coffee shops haven't affected it all," says pub owner of the Corner House Bar, Omar Tahiri.

The customers at the bar say that people are more likely to drink alcohol at home whereas they will go out for a well-made coffee.

The iPhone 6 Has Been Reported to be 'Bendy'

Just last week, on the 19th of September the iPhone 6 went on sale around the world. It is no exaggeration when i say there was colossal queues everywhere, it was a queue of over 1,000 people. Fans even camped overnight to be one of the first to get their hands on the new gadget. And oh no, the thunderous rain was not going to stop them either.

Early reports suggest demand is particularly high for the larger of Apple's two new devices, the iPhone 6 Plus, seen as the company's first foray into the "phablet"market.

Analysts have called it Apple's biggest launch ever. Stores in Australia, the first to officially sell the new phones, had over 2,000 customers, some of whom had flown around the world to be there.

The two men at the front of the queue in Covent Garden were interviewed and one of them said

"We're excited about the Plus' big screen," they said. "We're hoping to get the gold one, last time we missed it."

Is the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Prone To Bending?

Experts are divided over whether Apple should respond to claims that its new iPhone 6 handsets are prone to becoming bent when carried in trouser pockets.

We all know that one of the biggest features is that the iPhone 6 is very thin, but now it's being reported as potentially 'too thin'. That’s what some upset users are saying after they turned their iPhones into bananaphones.
If you asked a scientist they'd say that iPhones are definitely not immune to physics, as it's made of aluminum, this is a soft and thin. And the fact the phone itself is soft and thin, it's most definitely going to change shape if you apply pressure to it. Apparently even Siri herself says "The iPhone 6 bends like a banana" But you must bare in mind that this isn't a little bit of pressure, you'd have to apply a whole lot of pressure to bend it properly and it's not the only phone that would be able to do this either.

Fans are calling the whole scandal #BendGate

Should You Upgrade if You Already Have The 5s?

The iPhone 6 is quite a departure in some core ways, but it’s also pretty conservative in others. Apple has not significantly improved the camera hardware, and while the screen has gotten bigger, display quality is unlikely to improve all that much. There isn't an objective reason, at this stage, to upgrade from an iPhone 5S. Perhaps the trickier question is whether you should upgrade to the iPhone 6 Plus instead?

Brighton Locksmiths in Fear of Frauds

Locksmithing is a traditional trade, and in most countries requires completion of an apprenticeship. Locksmiths may be money-making, portable, recognized, or investigational e.g. forensic. They may study in one aspect of the skill, such as an automotive lock specialist, a master key system specialist or a safe technician. Many also act as security consultants, but not all security consultants have the skills and knowledge of a locksmith.

A locksmith called Tom Rubenoff writes on HubPages.com, Rubenhoff is American but many situations that happen to him would happen to a locksmith in Brighton. Rubenoff talks to us about how not all acclaimed locksmiths are genuine.

Cons of the Trade

Locksmiths in Brighton“A person who is locked out after hours can expect to pay one of these sharks several hundred dollars to get them back in, and may end up with ruined hardware and a damaged door besides. Consumers need to be careful whom they hire. The police may have someone to recommend. Otherwise a neighbourhood locksmith from a good neighbourhood might be a wise choice. Unfortunately when you are locked out you are in many ways at the mercy of fate and the locksmith.” Quotes Rubenhoff.

A locksmith might be scandalous if:

1. Their company vehicle is a pink Cadillac
2. They arrive dressed in formal attire
3. Their primary tool for gaining entry is a large pair of pliers

However there are funny stories of locksmiths getting stuck in sticky situations –

Brighton Locksmiths“Divorce lockouts were a challenge. The soon-to-be ex-wife would call and say she was locked out, so I would go get her in. Then, of course, she would have me change the locks. Then the husband would call with the same request, but I refused to work both sides like that. I referred him to a competitor.”

Locksmiths in Brighton

If you get in touch with your local Locksmith, being in Brighton or anywhere in the UK then you will no longer have to worry about the fakes. With a friendly approach and can-do attitude, it is not hard to find the perfect locksmith for you, at an affordable price for minor silly mistakes.

Steak Cooking Galore With Your Sussex Stove

Is your favourite is a butter-soft fillet steak? Or delicious sirloin or frugal cut like burette or skirt? Care and attention should always be paid when cooking your beef in or on your stoves in Hastings. With only a few minutes scope between rare and well-done, timing is important. Stoves in Sussex

Most recommended way of cooking your steak is frying. But you can also use the grill of your stove as well. A heavy, thick-based frying pan, ideally with a non-stick coating, will achieve good results, as will a heavy griddle pan or skillet. These types of pans get really hot.

Ways to Cook Your Steak

  •  Blue: Should still be a dark purple colour and just warm. It will feel spongy with no resistance.
  •  Rare: Dark red in colour with some juice flowing. It will feel soft and spongy with slight resistance.
  •  Medium-rare: A more pink colour with a little pink juice flowing. It will be a bit soft and spongy and slightly springy.
  • Medium: Pale pink in the middle with hardly any juice flowing. It will feel firm and springy.
  •  Well-done: Only a trace of pink colour but not dry. It will feel spongy and soft and slightly springy.

How to Cook To Perfection

  • Blue: About 1½ minutes each side
  •  Rare: About 2¼ minutes each side
  • Medium-rare: About 3¼ minutes each side
  •  Medium: About 4½ minutes each side

Well done: About 4-5 minutes depending on thickness

It is essential that you leave it to rest after you take it out of your stoves in Hastings. A cooked steak should break at room temperature for at least five minutes – it will stay warm for anything up to 10 minutes or so.

Casino Chaos in Brighton: So You Have a Gambling Problem

"Casino" is of Italian origin, the start word being "Casa" which means house and originally meant a little country villa, summerhouse or pavilion. The word changed to refer to a building built for desire, usually on the grounds of a larger Italian villa or palazzo. Such buildings were used to host public town functions – including dancing, music listening, and gambling. Casino’s such as Brighton Casinos are committed to proactively managing and decreasing its environmental impact through the adoption of a corporate strategy.
Brighton Casinos
The Tribune reported on a lady who gambled and lost $200 on opening day at the new Rivers Casino. She was quoted as saying, "If people don't win, they're not going to come back.” Perhaps she just doesn't understand the concept of gambling. -- Louis B. Raffel, Northbrook

Casinos are most commonly built near a tourist destination where there are hotels, restaurants, retail shopping, cruise ships or other tourist attractions. Casinos are usually pretty glitzy, when someone visits a casino it’s considered courtesy to dress up smart.

Gambling addiction can grab hold of people and morph them into someone who only cares about their next bet. Timothy Fong, professor of psychiatry at the University of California—Los Angeles and co-director of the school's gambling addiction program, says about a quarter of gambling addicts will commit a crime to satisfy their cravings, including embezzlement, insurance fraud or identity theft.

But it is said that some people do visit casinos simply to socialise with their friends, as well as a sense of escapism from the battles and reality of their lives. Also, it can be down to the feel of adrenalin that comes with the thrill of the game. Some highs that people get from gambling is enough to feed the addiction to carry on.

The trick to relishing your casino visit is to not take it too seriously, and look at it as something that’s not trying to steal from you. The real fun should be playing, not winning. So sit down with your friends and enjoy a game of roulette, blackjack or even bingo. Try and not take it all too seriously, as that’s when the bad stuff starts to happen and no one wants that to happen.

Brighton CasinosBrighton Casinos - Are They For You?

If you’re feeling lucky, and like you want to have a good time then head down to Brighton and Sussex where there are lots of great casino’s that you should go and check out.

Let's Talk About Puppies

We all love puppies, if you don't... what's wrong with you?

A puppy is a juvenile dog, some can weigh 1–3 lb, while larger ones can weigh up to 15–23 lb. All healthy puppies grow a vast majority bigger after birth.

Here are 10 facts about puppies that you may not have known -

1. A puppy is born - There are approximately 6.2 million puppies born in the U.S. and UK every year. In comparison to only 4 million babies born  per year, you can give each newborn baby at least one puppy as a birthday gift!

2.  Sensory - Just like us human beings, when puppies are first born, they are without teeth. However, they can't hear, see or smell either. Puppies do not open their eyes or begin to hear until they're 9 to 12 days old. Plus they can't smell until three weeks post birth. Until then, it's a must for the mini-puppies to stay close to their mother and their siblings to eat and grow into a healthy dog.

3. Sleeping - Not much differs between babies and puppies when it comes to sleeping habits. The average newborn sleeps 16 hours in a 24 hour time period, whereas puppies get around 14 hours of sleep only.

4. Lifestyle - When a puppy is born, 90% of their life is spent sleeping while the other 10 percent is spent eating.Since a lot of important development and growth happens for the pup during this time, it is important that they get their rest.

5. Sniffing - At 3 weeks old, puppies not only develop a keen sense of smell, but they're also pretty amazing sniffers. The percentage devoted to sniffing smells in a puppy's brain is actually 40 percent larger than humans. Plus they can smell things over a 1,000 times better than the average human.

6. Feeding - When a puppy is small, he needs to eat five small portions of food a day. Since he wasn't born to nurse, you will need to teach him the proper portion control to avoid gorging his little tummy. As he gets older, he can survive on one to two larger feedings per day.

7. Walking - Puppies grow pretty fast and it takes them a bit of time to get used to their body. Just like when a human is trying to walk, puppies can be a bit clumsy. A bit more common in larger breeds due to their long legs and big paws, puppies are quite the clumsy creatures when they trot alongside you.

8. Social skills - Puppies are in the womb and born with a litter. When they are left alone, they get lonely. Some chase their tails and some look for trouble. When your little puppy is young, make sure to spend a lot of time with the little guy and put him in sociable situations to ease his transition into being a pet.

9. Chewing - Just like babies, puppies teeth grow when they are chewing. Needing to exercise their new chompers, a lot of puppies will chew anything in site. Don't discipline for chewing, just train them on what's okay to chew and what's not.

10. All grown up - Even though he may not act like it, a 1-year-old puppy is considered an adult! This is the equivalent to a human at 15 years of age.

Online vs Physical Print with Brighton Business Directory

Is all hope lost for print?
Brighton business directory
Brighton business directory
Print publishing offers a vital tactile experience. From folding page corners to earmark favourite articles, cutting out newspaper clippings to flipping from page to page. The problem is that once you've tucked that important clipping away into a folder, you’re likely to forget about it

Although, as much as online is valuable in many ways such as cheap cost, capitalism on the general reach and convenience of the World Wide Web. There are limited benefits to print media that companies should not overlook. Research has shown that print still is very much an integral part of an ad campaign for example.

Pros & Cons to Physical Copies

Pros
Yours forever one thing is certain, print copies are yours forever. You can hoard them, share them, lend them or borrow them. They’re subject only to the time limits you set.
Sensory experience studies show that we retain knowledge and experiences better through physical interaction. Thumbing through pages, writing notes, and highlighting passages are all central features that we are trying to replace in the  real world.
Cons
Can’t keep up the 24 hour news cycle quickly turned into the 24 second news cycle with the rise of social media, therefore making it impossible for print publications to keep up with up to date breaking news.
Limited feedback when you publish a print magazine, you’ll never actually know what your readers think about it. Some people may write letters in with feedback, but that’s very uncommon with today’s lazier society so these days you’ll hardly ever know without a digital site.

Pros & Cons of Online Copies

Pros
Social sharing/community users increasingly expect to interact with the content they consume. Therefore drawing visitors to your blog for the commenting community and entice them to stay for the articles.
Tracking and analytics the strongest benefit to digital publishing is the feedback that helps you promote your product and content. Google analytics shows you what kind of articles and features are grabbing your readers attention, how much time they spend on a page, what they do with it and how they share it. Therefore helping you manage your team and resources better.
Cons
Shorter attention spans studies at school show school children today are able to resist distractions from work for about two minutes before checking their phones or newsfeeds. They understand and remember less, and they have greater difficulty transferring their learning to new contexts. Therefore digital media has to work extra hard to keep its attention-deficit readers engaged.
Optimization costs the cost of the digital publishing can stack up depending on your organisational roles. A low-cost digital strategy using WordPress themes and free plugins tends to have limited appeal. Higher involvement projects that optimize the user experience for Android, Apple, tablet, and traditional desktop viewers can become costly but pay off much more.

Business Directory Help or Pop-Up Shop – You Chose

Looking up a Brighton Business Directory, you do not want to find a business that would suddenly disappear out of your reach; which you do find with pop-up shops.

Business Directory in BrightonPop Up and Business Directory compared

Pop-up retail, also known as pop-up store or flash retailing, is a trend of opening short-term sales spaces in Canada, United States, United Kingdom and Australia.
Business Directory in Brighton
Sighted as early as the 1990’s, pop-up retailings are passing retail places that sell merchandise of any kind. That’s right; just about every consumer product has been sold via a pop-up shop at one point in time. From art to fashion to tech gadgets and food, pop-ups are exciting because they create short-term stores that are just about as creative as they are engaging. And they come in all sizes and shapes.
But now they are used in many business areas as a form of non-traditional retail. The intentions for opening a short term retail business or location can be varied, and will depend upon the business opportunity you are trying to feat.

So what type of people is getting involved?

"I want government to help small independent shops by giving them small business rates relief for up to three months," he explained. "This will encourage them to fill all these empty stores." – Roger Wade, the entrepreneur behind the Box Park retail hub in Shoreditch.

Wade is spearheading a campaign to get more pop-up shops onto the UK's high streets. Over 50 brands have joined his scheme, boosting the popularity.

Pop Shops are a great way for retail stops to stay in business rather than living in fear that they are going to be close down due to the increase of online consumerism.

So if you’re looking to promote a business, or want to market yourself more generally in a business directory, a Brighton business directory will allow you to create a listing that reaches the people in whatever area you want to be found. Providing experience with online marketing if you don’t have it yourself.

Therefore in terms of comparing pop up shops and business directory, it entirely depends on personal opinion and how you want your business to run.  Pop up shops are entirely self-promotional. Therefore, although it can still help get recognition, unfortunately, unless you are an already well-known brand it will not be as successful.

Karaoke Brings Out Your Inner Superstar

The word ‘Karaoke’ first originated from Japan, in a town called Kobe.

Though karaoke was at first an entertainment mainly for business people, it has grown to be a nationwide amusement, thanks to technological development and a new business called the "karaoke box."

Karaoke in Pubs in Brighton and Sussex

pubs in brightonIt is no surprise the admiration of the karaoke machine has begun a number of professional karaoke nights in Brighton clubs and pubs. And there are many venues most likely to ensure a rewarding night full of wholesome fun and total shame. There are many karaoke nights in Brighton clubs and pubs where you can ruin some of your favourite ditties and have a good laugh with your mates.

“We had a great time in the Queens arms! Even though I usually don't like karaoke, 'Camp Kevin' the DJ made the night with a good mix of music and karaoke. We were made to feel really welcome by the friendly staff and punters alike. If you want a good night out, this is definitely the place to go.” – Customer review for the Queens Arms Pub in Brighton

What Type of Karaoke Person are you?

Pubs in brightonThe Attention-Deprived
Some guys are usually mediocre singers at best, so they only sing songs with novelty value where the crazier they perform, the better the song becomes. They always put on memorable performances as they insist on jumping around on-stage, over-doing lyrics, and singing Spice Girls songs with their bros for laughs. They can sometimes do “Love Shack”, but more often than not, they can’t.

                                                        The Divas

Pubs in brightonThese girls can actually sing. They're entertainers at heart, but they tend to replace comedy with sheer talent and heart-stopping attractiveness. They dominate at Beyonce, Christina Aquilera, Mariah Cariey, and even own it at “Lady Marmalade” every time. Any time that one of these girls is on stage singing Adele’s “Someone Like You”, all the guys will forget they hate that song long enough to throw out some whistles and cat calls.

Pubs in brightonThe Newly-Weds
They don't have to be married but they insist on singing duets. The girl is usually the talented one. The guy’s just really drunk and laughing through most of the song. They will always pick songs from “Grease” or something a long those lines and apologize in advance for the next few minutes.

Cool Fact

Karaoke is so popular that it has even created a Karaoke Competition –

The UK’S very own Robbie Williams holds the record for the largest number of people singing karaoke at one time, for over 120,000 people singing "Strong" live at Knebworth 2003.

How Brighton Pub Quizzes and Trivia Can Drive You Insane

Pubs in Brighton have been running quizzes since the 1970’s which were created to entertain the local punters, but how many of us actually enjoy them deep down?

Bad Outcomes to Pubs in Brighton Quizzes

pubs in brightonWhen we go on a night out we walk into a pub expecting to have great fun and a nice drink with our friends but instead we find ourselves sinking into a trivia-launching one-on-one battle with the local brainbox. So you’re locking horns and you haven’t even started your first pint of beer.

"I once attended a pub quiz in Bristol where a dispute over an answer resulted in a wild west-style brawl and the police had to be called," says publishing executive Helen Lanwell.
But why does an answering trivia question over a pint bring out such passion?

Societies Love Of Facts and Trivia

brighton pubsThe problem is; as human beings we have a desperate love for
facts and sharing our knowledge. We often hide by saying we’re “just doing it to have a laugh and a couple of drinks” but really we just love proving ourselves with intellectual chatter and small talk. Then there are the perks of possibly winning some money or a bottle of wine whilst sitting in a pub - a nice combination.

For example, The Norfolk pub in Brighton offers free wine, money, a pint and a pie! “Quite simply our quiz is… AMAZING! So get your monkey butts to the Duke, get yourself a pie and a pint and win some money! And maybe some free wine! Word!” a quote from one of their own bar staff.

Ever Growing Technology Destroying The Pub Quiz World

We're talking Mobile phones here. Cheating has always been a feature of pub quizzes, but now an untruthful participant or ‘the local brainbox’ can get out their phone and use the internet to Google answers or text their close and smartest friend. Plus, phones with fast Wi-Fi have taken cheating to a whole new level of dishonesty. This is a result of boredom as Jack Waley-Cohen, founder of UK quiz-night Company, QuizQuizQuiz said “People cheat when they are bored and don’t engage properly with the quiz in the intended way. So at a really exciting quiz night, people don’t cheat.” So it’s as simple as making a quiz night more physical rather than masterful, for example; a spot-the-difference round.

Remembering Why Pub Quizzes Are Good Fun

pub quizzes in brightonAuthor of quiz culture book Brain Men, Marcus Breckmann the pub quiz is mostly a British craze and a recent one at that. He believes quizzes are good for the British, allowing the nation to stop being so uptight, and instead choose to relax a bit and behave like sulky eight-year-olds.

“They don’t seem to have existed before 1970 or so. Nor have they spread too far outside the British Isles, although they are a big deal with our overseas ex-pats and armed forces. And in my opinion the phenomenon really started with Trivial Pursuit.”

So maybe the nation should take a step back and focus on picking a funny name instead like The Dirty Harry's, Quizteam Aguilera or Village Idiots. Then you might even find you learn to appreciate the quizmaster’s terrible taste in music, and remembering it’s all a bit of light-hearted fun.

Financial Advisors and the Economic History of Haywards Heath

haywards heath finance

Its interesting to know that less than 200 years ago Haywards Heath was little more than a small hamlet located on the rural heathland of the Sussex Downs.  We're so used to the busy modern town with it's good road and rail links that we don't appreciate just how fast the town has developed.

There were two key events that led to the transformation of the town:

  • The Arrival of the Railway
  • The Arrival of The Cattle Market

The Railway Arrives

The boom in railway building in the nineteenth century, driven by the financial gains from the industrial revolution and empire, transformed much of England.  Investment in the new rail companies, encouraged by the financial advisors of the day, led to the transformation of many rural areas.  The London to Brighton line reached Haywards Heath 1841, and with it began the rise in the fortunes of the town.    Businesses connected with the construction of the line began to locate themselves around the new railway station,  beginning a small thriving commercial district.  By 1851 the area boasted two timber merchants, a corn exchange, pubs and a beer shop, and the original houses which were mainly a row of cottages were son added to.

A further stimulus to the expansion of the town was establishment of a mental hospital that was to serve the whole of Sussex. The Sussex County Lunatic Asylum was opened in 1859 and was one of the largest in the South East with places for 425 patients, bringing with it a demand for staff, building contractors and housing.

financial advisors haywards heathA major factor that allowed the town to grow in the way that it did, was the enclosure of the heath itself.  Such enclosures began as early as 1642, but it was an 1858 Act of Parliament that really paved the way for wholesale enclosure of the heath.  This in turn allowed for the private development of the area that turned the cluster of buildings around the railway station and the more remote hospital in to what can be recognized today as a town.  From 1860 onwards the town began to take shape rapidly.  Previously part of Cuckfield Parish, in 1894 the town gained its identity and governance under the newly formed Haywards Heath Urban District Council.

The Market Makes The Town

A real boost to the economic growth of the town was the establishment of a cattle market in 1868.  The market took place fortnightly, originally next to the station Inn, and then at a purpose built market from 1868.  By 1900 this market had established itself as one of the most important in the South of England.

Financial Advisors Help Haywards Heath Grow

haywards heath financial advisorsThe rise of a thriving town and the fact all of a sudden the area was accessible made attractive to people who wanted to escape the smoke of London but still be able to commute in, and other people who simply wanted to settle and enjoy the South Downs as well as easy access to both London and Brighton.  Financial advisors of the day, such as developers and estate agents, saw the opportunities as residential areas began to develop quickly in support of the business districts. Additional residents such as the builders needed to make the new properties in turn attracted the shops and suppliers who support any thriving community, and by the beginning of the 20th Century the growth of the town into an important business and residential area was cemented.
